Infectious diseases may strike your pet at any time, even when you are sure that you have done all you can to maintain its health. Some of these diseases are so serious that prevention is the only way to avoid death or disabling illness. Although no vaccine is 100% effective, vaccines typically assure effective disease protection in more than 95% of all animals vaccinated. Without protection, your pet can be infected by viruses and bacteria carried in the air, or in dust, clothing and the surfaces of inanimate objects. It is considerably less expensive to prevent diseases rather than treat them. Therefore, in order to avoid unnecessary stress and expensive hospital bills, the Animal Medical Center of Bradenton highly recommends routine pet vaccinations.

Canine Vaccinations

We recommend that puppies start their vaccines at 8 weeks and receive boosters every three weeks up to and including 16 weeks of age. Rabies can be given at 12-16 weeks old. All follow-up boosters are given yearly.

What is the Canine Flu Vaccine?
The Canine Flu is also called N3H8. It is a virus that is transferred from dog to dog, from dog to horse, or horse to dog. The N3H8 virus can be fatal if not treated. The Canine Flu originated in Florida in a group of racing Greyhound dogs. This vaccine starts out with a series of 2 injections 2 weeks apart. Then it is recommended that the dog receives a booster once a year.

-Dogs who are groomed regularly
-Dog Park enthusiasts
-Dogs that go to pet daycare facilities

Feline Vaccinations
Kittens can start their FVRCP and FeLV vaccines at 8 weeks old and will need boosters at about 12 weeks old. The first Rabies Vaccine is given at 12-16 weeks old. The initial boosters are given a year later. Then depending on your cat's individual needs and exposure, boosters are given yearly.

What is FVRCP and FeLV?
